I have taken the plunge and come to Asia to teach English, take a break from Photography and test my boundaries in many aspects. I have been here since October 2003, and my contract ends in 19 weeks. Here are my experiences for my last weeks in Korea

Hmmm perhaps a new blog

I was just thinking perhaps it might be time to start a blog called "Life after Korea". After the last installemt of Korean advantures (in my absence) I dont think I will be going back there EVER! But then- never say never, right?? Plus, I did manage to get a job in Bulgaria, so now I have no reason to go to Korea. Except to get my stuff. Stuff! That is part of this last adventure actually.

Here is what happened: My ex-colleague Colette was returning to Canada in between contracts a couple of weeks ago. I asked her to bring with her a suitcase of mine with all my work winter clothes, and some negs, a tripod and my Hassleblad Superwide. My friend Allison packed it for me while I was on MSN with her, and delivered it to Colette in a bar (why?I don't quite know). And Colette and her boyfriend left it in the back of the cab when they got out at home. Not sure what happened there, but there you have it.

As a result, I have lost all my negs from Korea and Japan, the depth of which hasnt hit me yet, and some negs from Iran. My camera was worth about 8 Gs, and was a graduation gift from my dad, and that was NEVER supposed to go in the suitcase! And I also have to go on a shopping spree for winter clothes (I'll do that in Bulgaria).

Oddly enough, I dont feel all that destroyed over this- after having a motorcycle accident in my last weeks in Korea (which cost me a lot of money- and pain) and then having scooty stolen, blattling a psycho boss, and packing up a household while quite ill, this seems a fitting end to Korea. There are things I miss and will miss about Korea, but at the end of the day, I feel that the place was not right for me. My happy days were (extreemely) numbred there, and other than it providing a means for me to travel to some beautiful places in Asia, meet some lovely people, and find Oscar- my companion, and travel buddy, Korea was not a positive experience and was almost jinxed for me.

So goodbye Korea, goodbye Kimchi and Soju, and goodbye "Life in Korea". This will be my last entry here. I will however put the link to "Life after Korea" here for those interested to see and I will make an effort to make an entry every other day from now on.

So long and I welcome your comments.

Katrin
