I have taken the plunge and come to Asia to teach English, take a break from Photography and test my boundaries in many aspects. I have been here since October 2003, and my contract ends in 19 weeks. Here are my experiences for my last weeks in Korea

So much for being nice!

When I heard about my friend in Canada having only a few days left, I called my bosses. Uncertain if they would let me go, I proceeded with caution but they were very nice and even drove me to the airport, and got me out of here on time. I knew they liked me since only days before they had offered me an incredible part time deal to stay, knowing I wasnt really into teaching full time, but had to hang out till Chris was done.

Well, I came back to find out that offer had been "taken off the table". He said it was because of the economic situation- which is very bad at the moment, but what I didnt know while I was away was that a "friend of a freind" who was to replace me while I was gone had quit after only a day. Being Korean himself, I dont know why he didnt communicate his reasons with my boss.

So all this was all of a sudden my fault and to put it bluntly shit hit the fan and my boss and I had words. At the end of the conversation, I was out of a job, and he out of a commitment. Not to mention, I paid out of pocket to fly home and he was to cover half my airfare for the new six month contract (standard practice here) and I am out that too- AND he docked me pay becasue he "lost money" due to my unreliable friend quitting after a day.

Funnily enough Philip used to give me a hard time becasue I did everything myself when in group activities we were supposed to "delegate" as team leaders. I used to fire back "If you want something done right you do it yourself". Well thanks a lot! You know who you are. I counted on you and you cost me A LOT! You just proved my theory. Good thing I believe in Karma!

So this is what I think happened. My boss got his back up because I left at the drop of a hat and though I told him who it was I was flying half way across the world for, he didnt understand, or hear me or remember WHATEVER! And when my replacement "friend" dropped the ball, and my boss himself had to teach my classes, he figured I didnt care enough about his business and I wasnt reliable.

So there you have it. They drive you to the airport then they say "But why did you go". Another Korean anomoly. And then they wonder why foreigners just dont get them!

Hey Girlieeee!

How much does that SUCK!!!!! SO what are you going to do now? It was really nice to see you, even though I was totally out of it when we went out for dinner--I was at home sick the next day. ugh.

When does Chris finish his contract?

You will rebound from this like you do everything else my dear--you are one incredibly resilient woman!

Remember, when one door closes, another one opens......there will be something else just around the corner.

8) Miss you!!!
